Highschool Basketball is getting better

A couple days ago (Friday night) I witnessed one of the most entertaining games of high school basketball that I’ve ever seen in my life. It was quite dramatic, a quick recap: It’s Friday night, the gym is packed, Faith Academy Varsity boys are playing against IS, one of their biggest rivals. The game is promising to be a close one, and to top it off, IS has the audacity to bring their little cheerleaders onto out court. But what made this uncouth move even worse was the fact that they all parked themselves at the end of the court which faith was shooting at, I guess to distract the boys’ attention from playing well. But anyway, the game was close, but faith was ahead most of the night, that is until the fourth quarter. There are thirty seconds on the clock; faith is up by a mere three points. IS, one shot away, takes the ball down the court. The clock is ticking away, twenty seconds left. Desperately number eleven on IS, who has been giving a stellar performance all night, with even a bit of drama (he fell on his arm, was taken out of the game, and then gallantly rejoined his team with a full recovery), grabs the ball and in the process travels and takes a daring three point shot. The ball swishes, faith is tied 73 to 73. The refs seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that number eleven practically ran with the ball cradled in his arms as though he were a football player on his way to a touchdown. Nonetheless, even though Mr. Landers has lost his composer and is trying to point out the infraction to the refs, the three points are held. Kirk takes the ball in with three seconds left on the clock. He runs down the court. One second left. He shoots the ball from half court, the buzzer sounds…SWISH… Yeah, that’s right, he got all-net from half court. The crowd was wild; I’ve never heard it this loud before. They all rushed the court in a frenzy of excitement and practically killed Kirk who is on the ground now under at least ten ecstatic fans who jumped him. Overall it was a good night for Faith.

Death

Well I was watching TV yesterday, lots of TV... I feel as though my brain has become fried especially since I haven't watched TV at all for two straight weeks. Who knew that cable really doesn't have anything on at all. But anyway, I was flipping through and I started watching the news for a while. The story was on the death penalty, Singapore, and Australia. If you've heard about then you know what I’m talking about, I don't feel like explaining it. But anyway, I got so upset when people were making such a big deal about how it was wrong. Come on, it's not like it was some surprise punishment that they all of a sudden stuck onto drug trafficking. The guy knew, or should have known (since it's no secret) what the punishment for his actions were, and thus receive his allotted due. Argh, makes me so angry just thinking about it. People today never want to own up to the responsibilities that their actions create.

The only problem though with the death penalty in general is that what if the guy was innocent...now he's dead, an irrevocable sentence, and who are we to decide who should live and who should die. Should any one government or body of people have that
